About Corralejo Dunes Natural Park

Located on the northeastern coast of Fuerteventura, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, Corralejo Dunes Natural Park encompasses a vast system of sand dunes stretching approximately 9 kilometers along the coast, tapering inland towards volcanic rock formations. This protected area covers a total of about 2,660 hectares and offers a rare desert landscape shaped by wind and sea. The dunes' fine, pale sands create a striking contrast against the island’s volcanic terrain and turquoise Atlantic waters, making it a visually captivating environment. The park's diverse flora includes resilient, drought-tolerant species, while its fauna comprises endemic reptiles, insects, and migratory birds. Historically, the dunes have been shaped over thousands of years by aeolian forces and oceanic currents, serving as an important natural buffer against coastal erosion. Visitors flock here for activities such as hiking along the sandy ridges, birdwatching, kite surfing, swimming, and photography. The nearby town of Corralejo provides access, accommodations, and amenities. Notable landmarks within the park include the Grandes Playas—long, sandy beaches popular for water sports—as well as viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of Lobos Island, a tiny uninhabited island to the north. The park’s combination of desert ambiance and beach environment offers an unparalleled outdoor experience on the Canary Islands, where adventure seekers and nature appreciators can immerse themselves in unique landscapes and marine life.
